As far as electric lawn mowers go, if you have owned one, your next buy becomes a lot easier. Why? Because you now know what you need and how much you loved or hated your last one.
Having looked at quite a few of these things, we were excited to check out the GreenWorks 25142 16 inch, corded electric lawn mower. Let’s dig in!
PARTS
The handle on this mower is padded for comfort and a better grip and has a button to start the mower. The safety bar is toward the front of the handle, so it’s easy to hold down against the handle.
The body of the mower is plastic, so it will never be in danger of rusting, but the handle is metal. Because it’s mostly plastic, it’s very light and easy to push. There is no EdgeMax design on this mower that allows you to cut closely around flower beds or fences, so you will most likely need a trimmer to get an all-around even cut around your yard.
This is a 2-in-1 mower, meaning that it mulches or bags only and does not have a discharge feature. Most people like to mulch since it fertilizes their yard and there is no extra work involved. There is no emptying the bag along the way or raking your yard afterward. If you prefer to bag, that feature is still there for you.
There is a single height adjustment lever that has 5 different height levels for your grass, from 1 inch to 3 ¼ inch. It’s easy to adjust, and if you keep up with your mowing, you probably won’t have to adjust it again.
The rear wheels on this mower are 7 inches and the front wheels are 6 inches, smaller than some other electric mowers.
HOW MUCH POWER DOES THE GreenWorks 25142 HOLD?
This is a 10-amp corded mower, which is on the low end of most electric mowers. It will work well but might be more suited for yards that you are just maintaining vs cutting tall grass. You might want more power where that is concerned, if that is your situation, or you could just take it slow and easy the first time.
There is no battery, so you don’t need to concern yourself with the care of batteries or them getting drained halfway into mowing your lawn. You will have to buy an extension cord if you don’t already have one, one that is long enough for your yard. It needs to be at least able to cover the 10 amps this mower needs. Once you get a pattern down with the cord, it shouldn’t get in your way as you go along.
STORAGE
The handle folds down over the Greenworks 25142 mower for easy, space saving storage. It is lightweight, weighing 37.5 pounds, so lifting it shouldn’t be a problem for most people. If you have to store it outside, it would be a good idea to get a cover for it. Also, it is safe to clean under the deck of the mower with a hose before you store it.
GreenWorks 25142 WARRANTY
There is a 4-year warranty on this mower for residential use and a 90-day warranty for commercial use. A lot of mowers do not have a warranty for commercial/professional use, so this is something extra to consider.
