Hi there!

Welcome to my electric lawn mowers review site. I decided to look into an alternative to regular gas mowers because I was tired of smelling gas, getting frustrated trying to start them, and having to deal with how loud they can be. Also, I really love the idea of not contributing to pollution.

With electric mowers and yard tools, you will no longer have to smell gas fumes as your cut your grass, which not only pollutes the environment, but is also not great for your health. You won’t have to get your hands dirty oiling up the engine on your gas lawn mower, or spilling gas on your hand. You won’t have to keep yanking on a cord to get your mower to start. I know how frustrating THAT can be! Most electric mowers start with the push of a button or turn of a key. It’s that simple.

Electric lawn mowers are also very quiet. They are described as being as loud as a vacuum cleaner, or a big fan. For you early risers, you could mow your lawn without waking your neighbors, depending on how close you are.

However, to be honest, there are some downsides to using electric lawn mowers. If you are going to buy the corded models, you need to be aware that you need to be plugged into an electrical outlet the entire time you are cutting your lawn. Not only do you have to buy a very long cord, but it can become a real hassle to carry the cord around and make sure you don’t mow over it. The shorter extension cord you buy, the better quality it will be, as the electric does not have to travel as far, and will therefore deliver more power to the motor.

On the positive side, with a corded model, you won’t have to deal with a battery that might overcharge or not last very long. Replacement batteries can be very expensive. You also might want to look for a cord that can take enough power so as not to short out your outlet.

For the cordless models, you won’t have to bother with lugging a cord around your whole yard. If you have a very small yard, that may not even be a problem, so it depends on the situation. Cordless will be more expensive, but if you have a large yard, it might be worth it to make the job easier. The negatives include batteries that are heavy, but you may or may not have to remove them from the mower to be charged.

You have to keep some batteries charged over the winter or they may not hold much of a charge. Also, if you happen to leave one plugged in for a longer period than the instructions say, it might get overcharged and you will have to buy another one. Some people buy a trickle charger, which is a charger that delivers a low-level electrical charge that equals a battery’s rate of discharge, which prevents it from overcharging. You can leave it plugged in indefinitely.

For electric mowers, there’s also the issue of them sometimes taking more time to cut grass than gas mowers. However, as long as you have a little extra time, it will be well worth it in the end. Some are also self propelled and will go at whatever speed you set it at, while you guide it.

If there is a problem with your mower, the service centers can sometimes be too far away. If the mower is all plastic, some parts might not be as strong as their gas mower metal counterparts, causing you to have to get a replacement part under warranty from the company. However, not all electric mowers are plastic, and I will be sure to point that out in my reviews. If you have a small yard that is relatively flat, it shouldn’t be a problem.

With all that being said, most people have very good experiences with electric lawn mowers. I will point our both positive and negative aspects of each mower so that you can decide for yourself which one would work best for you. Let’s all do the best we can to have a cleaner environment. It can start with something small, like mowing your lawn with an electric mower!
